Founded in 2010, Dead Possums Riding Club started with the purpose of bringing together a group of people who enjoy similar philosophies and riding styles with a focus on community spirit. DPRC has a focus on giving to those in need through charity events and community service activities while also promoting a positive self-image. DPRC promotes fellowship amongst motorcycle riders and fosters relationships between the general public and motorcycle riders through discussion and social events. DPRC does not discriminate against any race, religion, or ethnicity. DPRC promotes and practices motorcycle safety and education in the community and among its members.
Our humble beginnings started with members participating in and donating to local charitable events within our community. Whether it was showing up to support a fundraiser for a friend in need, or donating items to be raffled off, DPRC made it a point to support the local community in any way that we could.
DPRC supported, donated to, and learned from the events we had attended during the first 7 years of our existence and we were finally ready to make our mark in a larger way. In 2018, DPRC undertook its most ambitious project and held its first Mercer County Patriot’s Ride benefitting Reynolds VFW Post 7599 Veterans Outreach Programs. Taking lessons we had learned from the events we had previously supported and attended, and with the support of our community, the generosity of local businesses and families who have donated, and amazing corporate sponsorship, DPRC was able create something truly remarkable.
Always occurring on the 2nd Saturday in August, the Mercer County Patriot’s Ride has become Mercer County’s premier motorcycle event, raising $159,958 dollars for Reynolds VFW Post 7599 which is used to directly help local Veterans and their families through Reynolds VFW Post 7599’s Veterans Outreach Programs. Not only has DPRC created an extraordinary motorcycle event, but the Mercer County Patriot’s Ride features what is consistently the best basket raffle in Mercer County that our entire community can enjoy along with our delicious dinner. DPRC welcomes the entire community to this event, regardless of participation in the ride.
As a direct result of the success of the Mercer County Patriot’s Ride, DPRC was able to create the Mercer County Patriot’s Scholarships, which have directly helped to support the post-secondary educations of Mercer County youths. DPRC has awarded $30,500 in scholarships through this endeavor.
Additionally, DPRC sponsored an event that raised the funds necessary to help a local Veteran in obtaining a therapy dog. DPRC has also been an involved partner with the K-9 Searching Out Scent organization, helping to organize their charity runs and working at stops along the way. DPRC conducts two gun raffles each year as well, with the funds raised helping to support our community outreach, as we donate approximately $5,000 annually in the form of sponsorships, baskets for raffles, and helping wherever we are needed.
To date, DPRC has raised and donated $197,912 to and counting! We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our community. Please consider supporting our causes through attending and donating to the Mercer County Patriot’s Ride and purchasing raffle tickets from our members. Everything that is raised by DPRC goes back into our community.
